FROM “WHAT IF” TO A FIRST MIX

A few steps. Plenty of possibilities.

Read the guide
01

Bring a recording

Use an audio file you own or have permission to work with. Start with a short, clean excerpt.

02

Choose what you need

Try 2 stems for vocals and backing. Choose 4 for bass and drums, or 5 when you need a separate piano estimate.

03

Listen before you save

Compare the separated tracks, adjust their levels, then export a stem or Mix. Separation can leave audible artifacts.

Choose the model that fits your next step.

More stems are not a quality setting. Each model groups sounds differently and has its own resource cost.

02

Vocals & accompaniment

A useful first choice for a vocal reference or a practice backing track when you do not need separate drum and bass controls.

04

A closer look at the arrangement

Estimates vocals, drums, bass and other instruments. Guitar and strings commonly share Other; this is not a dedicated guitar extractor.

05

An additional piano estimate

Adds a piano estimate to the four main groups. Try it on a clear piano recording; synthesizers and processing can affect the grouping.

Guides in English

Good questions, straight answers.

Is it really free?

Yes. Separation, mixing, local history and MP3/WAV exports are free. You do not need an account, credits or a subscription. Ads help support the site.

Does my audio leave my device?

The tools process selected audio locally. Models and components are downloaded, but your audio, filenames and results are not sent to XSL. Advertising and site delivery make separate network requests.

What are the current limits?

Stemix accepts files up to 256 MB and audio up to 10 minutes. Processing also depends on available memory and a compatible WebGPU browser. Audio Inspector has a 64 MB limit.

Will a separated track sound like the studio original?

No guarantee. These are model estimates of a mixed recording. Reverb, overlapping instruments and lossy compression can leave bleed or a watery texture. Read the guide on separation artifacts.

Which browser should I use?

For Stemix, start with an up-to-date Chrome or Edge with WebGPU and hardware acceleration. Audio Inspector uses the browser’s audio decoder and does not require WebGPU.

Can I use someone else’s song?

You are responsible for permission to process and reuse a recording. Separating it does not grant ownership or permission to publish. See our terms and use content you are authorized to work with.
